Gaikhangam ridicules BJP over India Today poll
IMPHAL,25th Oct: Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam has said that the state government has become a laughing stock after its celebration of chief minister N Biren on being voted as the 3rd best performing CM of the country before the poll conducted by India Today concluded.
Gaikhangam, who is the first and lone AICC CWC member of the state, was speaking at the felicitation function of ex-MLA of Kshetrigao AC Thangjam Nandakishwar, Loitongbam Narendra and Keisham Ningthemjao of Andro AC, who joined Congress party on Thursday. MPCC organised the felicitation function at Congress Bhawan and was attended by MPCC president TN Haokip, Congress MLAs, ex-MLAs and party members.
The veteran Congress leader said that Governor Dr Najma Heptulla also felicitated the CM for his achievement only to find out that the result was for an ongoing poll and the position of CM Biren has gone down since then. Interestingly, media report on the poll, which states that the final report is yet to be published has made the state government a laughing stock, he said.
The premature celebration of the BJP government shows its immaturity. It not only affects the image of BJP but also of the state as a whole. At the same time, the dignity of Raj Bhavan has been tarnished by the premature celebration, he said.
People of the state gave its mandate in the hope for a change from the 15 years of rule by Congress. Unfortunately, the public are already fed up of the BJP government even before it completes two years. People have now begun to realise that the only party that could save the country as well as the state is Congress, he said. Comparing the BJP led government both in the state and at the Centre with bubble on water, Gaikhangam said that the BJP governments will vanish soon.
Considering the situation in the state as well as across the country, several people are joining Congress party lately. Three leaders joining Congress instead of the ruling BJP, is a clear sign of the revival of Congress. They know that they could serve the people effectively as a member of Congress. The party would be getting more enrolment in the days to come, he claimed.
CLP leader and former chief minister Okram Ibobi said that the BJP governments at the Centre and in Manipur have no difference when it comes to lying to the public. In 2014, BJP coerced the innocent public of the country to open bank account with the false promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh into each account. The Modi government made the public believe that several citizens of the country are hiding black money in foreign countries. However, it has failed to produce the list of account holders or bring back the black money till date, he maintained.
In a bid to save its face, the NDA government demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to check black money. Interestingly, all the currency notes regulated by RBI turned up during the exchange. The demonetisation step had a severe negative impact on the poor people and economy of the country and the NDA government is responsible for this, he said. As the economy of the country started crumbling down, the BJP led government implemented GST, which it had strongly opposed when proposed by the then UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh, thus adding to the misery of the people.
Likewise, the BJP led government in the state is doing whatever it want without ever considering its consequences and adverse impacts. The midnight raid in MU is one clear example of the monopolistic administration of the BJP in the state, he added.
