Police Commemoration Day observed across state
SENAPATI, 21st Oct: Senapati district police observed Police Commemoration Day at Police Reserve Line, Senapati on Sunday, during which SP (Senapati) M Pradeep Singh explained reason and significance of the observance. The SP recalled that in 1969 10 CRPF Jawans were killed while on duty at Ladakh. In honour of the supreme sacrifice made by the CRPF personnel, the day is observed every year to pay homage to the police martyrs at national, state and district level, he said.
In connection with the observance, an open essay writing competition for school children was organised recently at Hills Academy of Science by the district Police, he added. Sub-Inspector Krili James, Asst Reader to Senapati SP, read out the names 414 police personnel who were killed/met with unnatural death while performing duty from September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018. Police officers and personnel led by the SP laid flower wreaths in honour of the departed personnel. Shock Parade was also given to the martyrs by the District Police, Senapati.
Later, SP Pradeep distributed prizes to the winners of essay writing competition.
KAKCHING: Joining rest of the state, Kakching district police also observed Police Commemoration Day on Sunday at the office of Superintendent of Police, Kakching. Led by SP Victoria Yengkhom, the observance was marked by laying of wreaths on the photo of martyred police personnel. A police team led by Kakching Police Station 2nd OC Th Martin as commander also paid guard of honour to the martyred police personnel.
The observance was also attended by Additional SP (Law and Order) Kakching Thingnam Deshorjit, Additional SP (Ops) Kakching Netrajit Nepram, SDPO Sugnu Athokpam Romendro, SDPO Kakching Pukhram Sankar and OCs of Kakching, Sugnu, Waikhong, Pallel, Wangoo and Hiyanglam police stations and other police officers and personnel.
On the occasion, SP Victoria also presented gifts to family members of four police personnel who were killed in the line of duty. The martyred policemen are Mayanglambam Chaoba Singh of Kakching Moirangthem Leikai, H Lukhoi of Keirak Mamang Leikai, Sapam Rajkumar Singh of Sugnu Mayai Leikai and Naorem Kesho Singh of Kakching Mayai Leikai.
JIRI: As part of Police Commemoration Day, Jiribam district police honoured martyred police personnel of the district Sunday. Martyred police personnel remembered include SI Yumnam Budhi Singh of Dibong, Rifleman Ngangom Amuyaima of Chingdong Leikai and Rifleman Thangjam Birjit Singh of Ningthembam.
Apart from paying rich floral tributes to photos of the martyred policemen, a team of police personnel led by SP M Mubi solemnised a guard of honour to them. Families of the martyred policemen were also honoured by presenting gifts. Leaders of civil society organisations, government officials and family members of the martyred policemen also took part in the event.
THOUBAL: Police Commemoration Day was observed at the office complex of SP Thoubal on Sunday. SP Thoubal S Goutam, additional SP W Kassar and SDPO S Sachidananda led the participants in paying floral tributes to the portraits of those policemen, who were killed while performing duties. An on-the-spot painting competition for school students under the theme ‘Police are my heroes’ was also organised in two categories as part of the event. Winners of the competition and children of the slain policemen were encouraged with prizes and gifts.
