Ranjit tongue lashes CM over Rishang rant
IMPHAL, 21st Oct: Strongly disapproving chief minister N Biren’s statement that 15-year Congress rule prior to the present BJP led government brought no development except devising a policy to create enmity among the people of hills and valley, Sugnu MLA and MPCC spokesperson K Ranjit said that N Biren’s failure to remember works he did during the Congress rule was very unfortunate.
According to the MPCC spokesperson, N Biren was minister of state, cabinet minister and chairman at cabinet level during the 15-year Congress rule but failing to remember works he did during the long tenure would not be wrong to call him a mentally unsound person.
Addressing party workers during a political conference held Saturday at Borayangbi bazar in Kumbi assembly constituency, K Ranjit strongly disapproved the statement of N Biren made during inauguration of a women's market at Kangpokpi wherein the chief minister stated that 13-year of Congress rule under Rishang Keishing and 15-year of party’s rule under O Ibobi brought no development except scheming to pitch one ethnic communal with the other. Apart from terming as unwarranted and unfortunate the statement of Biren, K Ranjit said that such a statement from the chief minister shows that N Biren is beginning to suffer from mental illness due to his inefficient administration.
According K Ranjit, late chief minister Rishang Keishing had stood steadfastly for safeguarding territorial integrity of Manipur and due to his resolute stand for unity the NSCN-IM, which is trying to divide Manipur did not allow his body to be buried at his birth place at Bungpa village and instead laid to rest at Mantripukhri.
While alleging that chief minister N Biren did nothing to allow performance of Rishang’s last rituals at his birth place despite holding the home portfolio, K Ranjit maintained that N Biren should understand that Rishang Keishing’s soul could not rest in peace at his birth place due to his love and dedication for safeguarding territorial integrity of Manipur and questioned N Biren’s love for Manipur.
Strongly refuting N Biren’s charge that no development was brought during the Congress rule, the MPCC spokesperson said that N Biren himself was involved in construction of mini secretariat at district headquarters of Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Senapati, Chandel and creation of seven more districts for administrative convenience.
It was also during the Congress rule that sports complexes and 50-bedded hospitals were constructed in hill districts, Ranjit said adding that N Biren should not forget that places where the present BJP led government is holding cabinet meetings conveniently in hills were constructed during the tenure of the Congress government. He also reminded N Biren of the resolute stand taken by former chief minister O Ibobi Singh against entry of NSCN-IM leader Th Muivah to his native village when the Centre gave approval in 2010. Had no such stand been taken by the then O Ibobi-led government, Manipur’s territorial integrity would had been distorted and there could be no unity as seen today, Ranjit added.
While ridiculing rating made by media group India Today that N Biren is third best among chief ministers of India and best among BJP ruled states, the MPCC spokesperson said that the rating should had been made on ‘bad’ chief ministers as an online opinion poll conducted by a local media group contradicted the India Today rating. The opinion poll conducted by the local media group asked people to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to India Today’s rating putting Biren as third best CM of the country and only 18 percent said ‘yes’ while 82 percent said ‘no’, Ranjit said, adding that it was not a simple one but opinion poll of the people of Manipur. The political conference organised by Borayangbi-Kumbi Block Congress Committee was also attended by MLAs Govindas Konthoujam, Abdul Nasir, Fajur Rahim and ex-MLAs N Mangi and T Mangibabu apart from party leaders and workers.
