UKHRUL, 20th Oct: A three-year old boycott call against two former Congress MLAs Preshow Shimray and Victor Keishing has been revoked by Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) during a reception programme at its assembly hall here on Saturday. Lifting of the boycott call was executed as per resolution of the apex body's executive meeting held on October 16, according to TNL.
The two former Congress MLAs, namely Victor Keishing, the then parliamentary secretary in-charge (TD&IT) from Phungyar AC and Preshow Shimray, the then Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly from Chingai AC were ex-communicated in 2015, along with former NPF MLA Samuel Risom, who was later exempted from the penalty following his resignation from his position.
The boycott was imposed against the backdrop of the decision of the State Assembly on the ‘Naga National issue’ and the passage of three 'anti-tribal Bills' on August 31, 2015, with the apex body accusing the district's MLAs of keeping mum on the matter and refraining from staging a walk out from the Assembly.
According to the boycott call, the two Congress MLAs were barred from entering the district, including their native villages. It may be recalled here that earlier in 2010, a similar social boycott was imposed on former ADC members for participating in the previous ADC election which was then boycotted in the Naga areas.
