MU community warmly welcomes Jarnail Singh
IMPHAL, 12th Oct: After being appointed as Manipur University’s administrator by High Court of Manipur, retired IAS Jarnail Singh took charge of the office and held a meeting with MU community to discuss the situation prevailing in the varsity on Friday.
Jarnail Singh reached Imphal at 12.30 pm and at 2 pm he went to MU to take charge as the administrator. He was then officially welcomed by representatives of Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA), Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA) and Manipur University Students’ Association (MUSU) followed by a meeting at the Court Hall of VC’s Office.
Welcoming Jarnail Singh, MUTA president Prof I Tomba Singh stated that he believed that with his appointment there will soon be an end to the issues plaguing MU and normal academic atmosphere in the varsity restored.
MUSA president S Jibankumar said that he too believes that a resolution will soon come forth wih the appointment of Jarnail Singh as MU administrator. To bring solution on the impasse, MU community will extend full co-operation to the administrator, he assured.
Speaking at the meeting, Jarnail Singh conveyed his gratitude to MU community for welcoming him whole heartedly.
The retired IAS officer and former chief secretary of the state went on to say that his first priority will be to meet all the stakeholders and discuss their demands to properly understand the issues. In all the posts he had ever held, he has worked for the welfare of the people and in the case of MU also he will work with MU community for early resolution of the issues plaguing Manipur University, so that normalcy can return soon, Jarnail assured.
He further stated that if any section of the university wants to meet him regarding any issue they are all welcome to meet him along with conveying that he will visit all departments of the MU and talk to teachers and students. The administrator also assured that he will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the crisis prevailing in the university ends soon and the university goes forward in the path of development. And for this he requires the support of the MU community, Jarnail appealed.
After the welcome function, another meeting was held at the Court Hall at 3.30 pm with all the heads of departments and teachers of the university to discuss the MU issue.
At the meeting, Jarnail Singh also reviewed the list of teachers and students arrested by the police in connection with the FIR filed by Prof Yugindro at Singjamei Police Station.
Addressing the media, Jarnail Singh disclosed that although he got the gist on the MU crisis in today’s meeting, he will continue to hold meetings with all the sections of the MU to understand the issue more deeply and to think what actions can be taken regarding the matter.
