Woman, transgender found dead

IMPHAL,6th Oct: In two separate incidents that took place under Imphal Police Station, a woman was found dead hanging in her husband’s home while a transgender got killed in a hit-and-run case. The woman who was found hanging has been identified as Sorensangbam ongbi Lily alias Sunibala (43), wife of Shyamlal of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai. According to police, family members discovered Lily hanging with a chunni over the veranda of her husband’s house at around 6.30 am Saturday. Upon receiving news of the incident, a team of Imphal Police Station accompanied by forensic experts rushed to the spot and conducted preliminary investigations.

The body was retrieved and deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem examination, after which it was handed over to family members for performing last rites. Imphal PS has registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case in connection with the incident and further investigation has been initiated.

On the other hand, a transgender was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Friday evening at Uripok. The deceased has been identified as Thoidingjam Mahabir alias Thoi (33), son of late Rajmohan of Jiri Golarthol. As per police reports, Mahabir was brought to RIMS Hospital by some people after they found him injured on the road after being hit by a vehicle near Uripok Yambem Leikai along Uripok Kangchup Road at around 10 pm Friday. However, Mahabir succumbed to his injuries.

After receiving news of the incident, a team of Imphal Police Station arrived at the Hospital, registered a UD case and initiated an investigation into the incident. During the investigation, they were able to establish the identity of the deceased and were also able to ascertain that the vehicle that hit Mahabir was a Yamaha Fascino, following which the person involved in the hit-and-run was apprehended by the police.
