AMSU vows to intensify stir against NSCN-IM activities
IMPHAL, 13th Sep: Reiterating its demand for flushing out NSCN-IM from the state, All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has declared to intensify its stir in both in the hills and the valley against illegal activities of NSCN-IM from Friday onwards.
Announcing this at the union HQ office located in DM College campus on Thursday, AMSU vice-president Peter Laishram expressed discontentment over the silence of the government on the illegal activities of NSCN-IM which are being carried out in violation of the ground rule of the peace talk with the Centre. He also questioned the role of the government in the illegal tax collection from transporters along the highways.
AMSU has been staging protests demanding appropriate actions against the armed outfit following an incident at Nungba market on September 3 night, in which some persons, who claimed themselves as NSCN-IM cadres assaulted AMSU general secretary.
Peter decried the inability of the government to give any positive response to their demand while adding that the recent incident has made it clear how NSCN-IM has been harassing people and collecting illegal taxes along the two highways for long.
Denouncing the silence of the government over the illegal tax collections, he also demanded the government to show account statement if the government is authorising such tax collections. The union had already submitted an ultimatum to the government with a 72-hour deadline demanding deployment of highway protection force to ensure free and safe passage along the highways, arrest those involved in the Nungba incident and dismantle all designated camps of NSCN-IM since the ceasefire agreement does not extend to the state, he reminded. The 100-hour blockade on NH 37 ended on Thursday but the government has not shown any positive response, he noted.
Such callousness indicates that the government is waiting for some unwanted outcomes before putting its act together, he maintained. Strongly condemning the inability of the government, he informed that AMSU will launch intense stir both in the hills and the valley at any moment and added that the government should be held responsible for any unwanted outcome.
