Ukhrul body airs grievances, seeks Govt attention
IMPHAL,12th Sep: Maintaining that Ukhrul district has been plagued with poor infrastructure in different sectors including transport, healthcare services and education, Kajamei Long Ukhrul town has sought attention of the government to address the grievances of the district at the earliest. Addressing media persons at ICHAM office here on Wednesday, Kajamei Long general secretary A Hongba informed that despite efforts of the government to bring development in the district, Ukhrul has been remaining one of the least developed districts in the state.
A 2 km long road, which was black-topped by the government prior to the Shirui Festival, has deteriorated within three months, he said while decrying lack of quality in the work. He also demanded the government to take necessary initiatives to prevent such sub-standard quality works in future. The district has 785 government high schools but none of them has regular headmasters. Besides, strength of teaching staff in these schools are very low. The best high school of the district has only six teachers including the headmaster in-charge and the situation in the rest of the school is very pathetic. As such, students are facing severe inconveniences, he rued.
