IMPHAL,12th Sep: Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has appreciated the inherent culture in Manipuri society but stressed the need for ban on honking by vehicles to decrease noise pollution in the densely populated areas. Speaking to The People’s Chronicle at her Raj Bhavan office on Wednesday, Dr Hptulla noted that Manipur has a unique history that dates back to 2000 years. In her two years as Governor of the state, she said, she has witnessed that the people of the state live a life that is highly cultured and civilised.

The various cultural dances of the state should be made into dance drama form and a written history of all dance forms of the state should be made available to the tourists for their convenience, she opined. The Governor stated that she has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include Imphal City as one of the Icon Cities as Manipur’s unique culture, biodiversity, Sangai which is endemic to the state and its abundant natural resources makes Imphal City a deserving candidate to be included among the Icon Cities.

Dr Heptulla noted that weather condition of Manipur has a huge role in slow development of infrastructure in the state. There is no telling when the rain will stop in the state. The mountain of the state have rocks that are sedimentary types which lead to frequent landslides in the state which in turn is causing delay in infrastructure development of the state, she added.
