Chajing lift Challenge Cup

IMPHAL: Chajing FC shrugged off an early deficit against Eimi FC to clinch the 19th Challenge Cup veterans’ football tournament title on Tuesday. Chajing downed Eimi 2-1 to get their hands of the trophy. Eimi FC put Chajing on the back foot with an early goal when Jangmin found the back of the net just four minutes from kick-off.

The Eimi team led through 27 minutes until Chajing managed to capitalise on the former’s defence slip-up and draw level with W Mohon’s 31st minute strike. After break, Chajing turned things around when N Sagor scored in the 53rd minute as his team never relinquished their 2-1 advantage in the ensuing minutes of contest to seal title. Winners Chajing FC walked away with a Rs 50,000 prize money plus a rolling trophy while Eimi FC were given Rs 30,000 besides a trophy.

Among the individual prize winners were Eimi FC’s Thangjamang (best goalkeeper), Eimi FC’s Napoleon (best defender), Chajing FC’s S Budha (best midfielder), Eimi FC’s Jangminlen (best striker), Chajing FC’s W Mohon (most valuable player), Eimi FC’s Janggoulen (top scorer), and Chajing FC’s Kh Sanaton (best player).
