Kangpokpi police seize drugs worth Rs 10 lakh

KANGPOKPI,9th Sep: In a major drug haul, Kangpokpi police seized huge quantity of Opium and Heroin powder from a passenger Tata Winger along NH 2 on September 7 at about 8.30 pm. According to police source, a team of Kangpokpi police under the supervision of SP Kangpokpi intercepted one passenger Tata Winger bearing registration no MN02G-1247 while conducting frisking and checking along highway at various locations.

On checking the vehicle, six packets of Opium wrapped in polythene were found hidden inside the bonnet of the vehicle. Each packet weighed 1 kg. On further checking, another five packets of suspected to be heroin powder were found inside a black bag concealed inside Godzilla (mosquito coil) packets.

The opium and suspected Heroin powder along with the vehicle were seized by police. In connection with the seizure, police also arrested two persons identified as Subi Khatri alias Dip (38) son of Bakta Bahadur Khatri of Aisan village under Saikul sub-division presently staying at Koirengei and Puyam Nanao (35) son of late P Chaoren of Moirangthem Leijubam Leikai, Moirang. A case under ND&PS Act has been registered for investigation.

According to source, as per the present rate of Rs 1.5 lakh per kg, the seized opium of six packets would worth around Rs 9 lakh while the monetary value of the seized Heroin powder has been estimated at around Rs 50,000.
