High Court to decide Pandey plea today
IMPHAL,6th Sep: A Division Bench of the High Court of Manipur will decide on whether to accept or not the petition filed by Manipur University vice-chancellor professor AP Pandeyon Friday. Professor Pandeyhad filed the petition at the court on Wednesday through his counsel A Mohendro challenging the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between MU community and joint secretary of Union Ministry of Human Resource on August 16 last in the presence of commissioner (Hr& Tec Edn) and chief minister N Biren and his council of ministers.
The single bench of justice N Kotiswar conducted admission hearing of the petition filed by AP Pandey at Court No 2 Thursday. In view of the present situation in MU, the court referred the petition to a Division Bench comprising chief justice RamalingamSudhakar and justice KhNobin. The Division Bench listed the same petition for hearing on Friday.
During the admission hearing Thursday, Pandey was represented by his counsel A Mohendro while ASG S Suresh represented the respondent, the Union of India. Another respondentof the petition, the State of Manipur, was represented by HS Paonam while other respondent, Manipur University was represented by registrar in-charge’s counsel H Kunjeshori.After hearing statements given by counsels of both the petitioner and the respondents, the court referred the petition to the Division Benchto decide on whether to accept it or not while giving reference to Chapter V-A rule 2(d) of the Guwahati High Court Rules, 2015.The single bench also granted prayer of petitioner’s counsel M Mohendro for rectifying typographical errors committed in the writ petition.
