Eimi FC beat FCW, enter Challenge Cup final

IMPHAL, 11th May: Eimi FC, Langol overcame FC Wangkhem on penalties to earn their place in the final of the 19th Challenge Cup veterans’ football tournament on Thursday. In a keenly contested semifinal, both teams were deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regulation. Eimi FC stole a march on their opponents when Jangminlen found the back of the net 18 minutes into the game.

However, FC Wangkhem put in a spirited fight to draw level with a 37th-minute effort from Kh Sumanta. Following the 1-1 tie, the game went straight to penalty kicks where Eimi FC prevailed 5-4 against their foes as Jamkhotinlen, Napoleon, Lamthom, Seikhohao and Akam all converted their shots to help their side book their title berth. On the other hand, Sh Jiten, Md Amzad Khan, W Tomba and T Arun scored in vain for FC Wangkhem.

Eimi FC will meet the winners of the second semifinal match between Chajing FC and SHDSVFA, Sadar Hills who clash on Friday at XI-Star Sporting Union Ground, Akampat.
