State level Teachers’ Day celebrated; 10 teachers honoured
IMPHAL,5th Sep: The state level Teachers’ Day celebration which is held every year to mark the birth anniversary of former President, teacher, educator and scholar Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was jointly organised by Department of Education (S), Department of Education (U), Department of Language Planning and Implementation, SCERT, Adult Education, RUSA, RMSA, SSA, CoHSEM and BSEM at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound, Imphal East on Wednesday.
During the celebration, ten exceptional teachers of the state were awarded State Teachers’ Award. Speaking as chief guest of the event, Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed that model residential schools will soon be set up in seven selected districts for which Rs 20 crore has been earmarked.
Stating that the state government has been focussing on human resource development, the CM informed that the first session of Dhanamanjuri University would begin this year. Moreover, Manipur Legislative Assembly has passed the Manipur International University Bill, 2018 recently.
The number of students going outside the state to pursue higher studies would come down once these two varsities commence their sessions, the CM maintained. He also informed the gathering that many school drop-outs who stopped their study due to financial problems have been re-admitted under the state government’s ‘Lairik Tamhansi’ scheme. In all, 752 children have been re-admitted in class I to VIII and another 876 children in class IX to XII under the scheme so far. Apart from this, free text books
