KRYPHSA face ESU as IE meet Tbl in finals

IMPHAL, 8th May: KRYPHSA will face ESU in the girls’ final while Imphal East Club and Thoubal Club will square off for the boys’ title of the ‘Ooraj’ CAPF U-19 Talent Hunt Football Tournament. The finalists compete for the top honours at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on Wednesday, May 10. In the first girls’ semifinal fixture on Monday, KRYPHSA pulled off an 11-0 hammering of Imphal West District Football Team to cruise into the final.

            N Ratanbala led the assault on their tame opponents, scoring six goals. The prolific striker struck in the opener just eight minutes from kick-off and collected four goals in quick succession (38th, 40th, 40+1st, 43rd) before wrapping up her six-goal salvo in the 74th minute. N Priyangka also impressed with four goals (17th, 34th, 36th, 49th) as S Ranjan completed the scoring with an 80th-minute goal for KRYPHSA.

            ESU also earned a smooth passage to the girls’ final with a 6-0 rout of YWC (L) in the second semifnal. Kashmina hit four goals (9th, 16th, 63rd, 80+1st) as Ng Sweety and Ph Anajli added a goal apiece in their side’s comfortable win. Meanwhile, Kh Tondonba’s late goal was enough for Imphal East Club to book their final berth of the boys’ event after scripting a hard-fought 1-0 success against Imphal West Club.

            It was a tight match throughout but Kh Tondonba’s brilliant effort in the 88th minute made sure Imphal East eventually rose to contest. The other semifinal saw Thoubal Club outclass Imphal East District Football Team 5-1 to set up the boys’ summit clash with Imphal East Club. Thoubal took possession from the word go and they needed just nine minutes to break their opponents’ defence for the opener courtesy of Y Gopi who scored a hat trick.

             Thoubal’s second goal in the first half came from S Roger. He doubled the lead in the 21st minute. After the break, Th Suraj scored the third goal in the 72nd minute before Y Gopi took charge of the remaining two goals which he netted in the 81st and 85th minutes.

               Imphal East scored their consolation goal in the 71st minute through Reuben. KRYPHSA and ESU will face off for the girls’ title on Wednesday at 9:00 am as Imphal East Club and Thoubal Club lock horns for the boys’ trophy later in the day at 3:00 pm.
