Ccpur cops recover gun used to slay USRA chief
CCPUR,31st Aug: Churachandpur district police has so far arrested seven persons including two prime accused in connection with the killing of USRA chief Lalminthang Vaiphei and also recovered several arms and ammunition. Addressing media persons Friday, Churachandpur SP Kabib K said that a special team of the district police formed to investigate the murder of USRA chief succeeded in recovering the gun used in shooting Lalminthang Vaiphei.
Investigation by the team spearheaded by addl SP (L&O) Churachandpur and assisted by SDPO Ccpur and OC CCpur police station is progressing smoothly and the team apprehended five more persons apart from the two main accused arrested earlier.
The team also recovered several arms and ammunition and other items from the arrested persons, he said, adding that the recovered items included one .32 pistol with a magazine, one 9mm Glock pistol (Australia) and magazine, A-1 automatic Rifle with one magazine, seven live rounds of .32 calibre, seven live rounds of 9mm, 18 live rounds of 9mm, 71 live rounds of 5.56mm, 11 mobiles phones and Rs 31,090 in cash and two cars. This was due to the hard work of officers and assistance of Imphal East district police, K Kabib added. Mention may be made that United Socialist Revolutionary Army (USRA) chief Lalminthang Vaiphei (60) son of late Lunsat Vaiphei of T Munjang village was shot dead on August 22 at about 7.40am near ZEO office, Tipaimukh Road, Churachandpur.
