Gaikhangam unfazed by UNC, Naga Hoho diktat

STAFF REPORTER
IMPHAL,31st Aug: Challenging the warning issued by United Naga Council (UNC) and Naga Hoho to Naga MLAs against attending meets or assembly session convened against the Framework Agreement, former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam Friday said that he is not a MLA of Nagaland but of Manipur and he will do the needful as an MLA to protect the integrity of the state and interest of its people.

Speaking to media persons, the MPCC leader, who was recently inducted as a member of CWC, pointed out that this is not the first time that UNC and Naga Hoho have issued such warnings. He had come across such numerous calls. But it is his duty as an MLA of the state to stand for the unity, integrity and interest of the state, the veteran Congress leader affirmed. Clarifying that his stand is not against any community, organisation or state, Gaikhangam maintained that he is simply doing the needful as a son of the soil and he will continue to do so.

Regarding the Framework Agreement, he compared one of the most secretive deals with a time bomb, which will be detonated at a certain time and said that everybody which might get affected by the bomb should take necessary precautions to remain unhurt. But BJP has been maintaining that there is nothing in the agreement to affect the state and the party remains unfazed of the inevitable.

On the other hand, casual statements being issued by BJP leaders certainly indicate that the BJP government in the state has full knowledge of contents of the agreement. The government’s confidence is telling everyone that the government and BJP will take full responsibilities for any effect on the state, he said, while asking the government and BJP not to retreat from its stand when the public apprehension becomes reality.

Reacting to the promise of doing in 15 months what the Congress government could not do in 15 years, Gaikhangam also demanded the BJP government to show to the public what it had done in the last 15 months. He further enquired the government if it had executed the various packages it announced for hill districts and make public the list of projects and schedule date of completion.

Terming the Go to Hills and Go to Village missions as programmes without proper action plan, he demanded the government to show the results of its GTH mission. The government has also snatched the functions and power of panchayat bodies and zila parishads by its GTV mission, he alleged.
