Gold rush for IW, Bpr, IE boxers on Day 5

IMPHAL,30th July: Fifty six gold-medal matches were decided as boxers from Imphal West, Bishnupur and Imphal East claimed the bulk of the yellow metal on offer on the penultimate day of the State Level Boxing Championships 2018. Five senior men’s finals on Monday saw S Arnold (Jiribam), T Girish Singh (Imphal West), Myson Moirangthem (Bishnupur), Kh Sanamach Singh (Imphal West) and L Deep Singh (Imphal West) emerge the victors in their respective matches in different weight categories.

S Arnold outpunched Y Sanamacha (MPSC) in their 75kg final bout as T Girish Singh got the better of O Inao (MPSC) to win the 52kg title. Myson Moirangthem, on the other hand, was the winner of the 60kg final match against H Nongthon Meitei (Imphal West), while Kh Sanamach Singh beat Katrimsha Donsho for his gold medal (69kg), and L Deep Singh defeated Roshan Choudhury (Imphal East) to win the 91+kg final.

Among the winners in the junior men’s competition were Imphal East’s Th Boicha Singh (46kg), Thoubal’s L Julet Singh (48kg), Bishnupur’s N Priyobatra Singh (50kg), Imphal West’s H Bhimjit Singh (52kg), Bishnupur’s N Rohit Singh (60kg), Imphal East’s N Boinao Singh (63kg), and Imphal East’s M Rahul Singh (66kg).

In the youth men’s finals, Imphal West’s Th Nanao Singh (49kg), Imphal East’s L Rohit Singh (52kg), Imphal West’s Kh Nongdamkhomba Singh (56kg), Imphal East’s K Luckyson Singh (60kg), Imphal East’s N Bobosana Singh (64kg), and Chandel’s O Milan Singh (69kg) defeated their respective opponents.

Bishnupur’s Kh Monika Devi (51kg) and Imphal East’s L Nilam Devi (64kg) were the gold winners of the senior women’s event on Monday. The day’s winners in the junior girls’ finals were O Pinky Chanu (Imphal West), M Rosemary Chanu (Bishnupur), Kh Anju Devi (Imphal West), and N Bindiya (Imphal East), both Sanathoi Hemam (Bishnupur) and Th Eliza Devi (Imphal West) emerged victorious in the youth women’s final matches.

Meanwhile, 11 gold-medal bouts in the sub-junior girls’ tournament and 17 sub-junior boys’ finals were also decided on the fifth day of the State Level Boxing Championships.
