SWC crowned champions of 14th Governor’s Cup

IMPHAL, 29th July: SWC, Khongman put up a strong show on the concluding day of the 14th Governor’s Cup State Fencing Championships to leapfrog UPAA, Kyamgei in medal count and emerge overall team champions of the five-day competition that wrapped up on Sunday. The SWC fencers added nine medals including four gold to seal the championship title at the expense of UPAA.

SWC grabbed a total of 30 medals, including 10 gold, to garner 84 points that put them atop the medal table after the final day as UPAA finished behind with 28 medals, including seven gold, to earn a total of 71 points. The last day of the competition saw SWC take the sub-junior boys’ title after making top podium finishes in all three - foil, epee and sabre – events, apart from claiming two silver medals in the boys’ group.

Ok Demish won the foil event, N Manish clinched the epee contest and Tejbanta claimed the top honour of the sabre event. The girls’ team also did well by winning the sabre gold through Abi, in addition three bronze courtesy of Valentine, Mana and Jesmina.

Runners-up UPAA, meanwhile, had to be content with two silver and three bronze medals on the final day. The club’s duo of N Asha Devi and S Crownlady claimed the silver medals (girls’ foil/sabre) as N Danison (boys’ sabre), Th Sandhya (girls’ epee) and S Fiona (girls’ sabre) earned the bronze medals.
