CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL,12th July: Manipur scored in both halves to beat Odisha 2-1 in the final of the Sub-Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2018 at Cuttack, Odisha, on Thursday. The state girls started brightly and in a matter of 15 minutes they were ahead of the hosts. It was L Bibicha who registered the first shot on goal. She connected with a well-timed pass and created a space dodging her way through opposition defenders before sending the ball into the net. However, things weren’t easy for Manipur in the ensuing minutes of battle as Odisha put up a spirited fight back and forth and managed to draw level when Sumitra Hembram found the equaliser in the 33rd minute to ensure both sides were tied at 1-1 after the first-half whistle. The second half too was a keenly contested one as possession changed hands throughout the next 45 minutes until Manipur pulled off a thrilling win in injury time. It was H Silky’s fine effort in the dying seconds of added times that tilted the scales in Manipur’s favour for their deserved title.
