Bhabananda to table BP issue in Parliament
IMPHAL3rd July: Stating that the BJP governments both at the centre and in the state are seriously concerned about the controversy arising out of the disputed installation of border pillars in Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar boundary, Rajya Sabha MP Ksh Bhabananda has assured that the issue will be tabled for discussion in the upcoming Parliament session.
Speaking as chief guest during inauguration of BJP Keishamthong Mandal office at Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai on Tuesday, Bhabananda pledged to work at the best personal level to ensure that Manipur does not lose even an inch of its territory on account of the border fencing project along the Indo-Myanmar boundary belt.
Bhabananda, who is also the BJP Manipur Pradesh president, said that he will prevail upon his fellow parliamentarians for a thorough debate on the border pillar issue and convince them to take a resolution for safeguarding the state’s boundary.
Further stating that neither he nor the government will ever shirk from the responsibility of upholding the interest of Manipur and its people, the MP made it clear that the border issue is of serious concern to the government.
As the border dispute is between two major nations, settling the same will entail consultations in a harmonious manner, he explained, while adding that formation of a fact finding committee is testimony about the state government’s seriousness towards resolving the matter honourably. He also confided that findings of the said committee will be provided to the Central government for doing the needful to safeguard the territory of Manipur.
While lamenting that various issues besieging Manipur from time to time has been denting the state's march on the developmental front, he urged political leaders to keep aside their personal interest or party-centric agenda and work for settling genuine issues of the state. The MP also highlighted that Manipur urgently needs a handful of sincere and committed political leaders.
Noting public apprehension over threat to the territorial and emotional integrity of Manipur subsequent to signing of the framework agreement between the Union government and the NSCN-IM, he exuded confidence that the BJP central leader will not compromise on the state’s territory.
Further stating that a memorandum was recently submitted to the BJP national president and the latter had assured to uphold Manipur’s interest, Bhabananda announced that he as well as the chief minister will relinquish from their respective positions at the slightest hint that the Centre is undermining the public sentiment.
He also stressed the need for political leaders and parties to work for ensuring that the welfare programmes launched for the people are implemented in an effective manner. With the setting up of the BJP office for Keishamthong assembly constituency the party supporters can work for further strengthening of the organisation and to realise national party president Amit Shah’s clarion call to the party workers for ensuring victory of BJP candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, he said.
The office inauguration function was also attended by BJP Keishamthong Mandal president K Noren, party’s vice president Salam Joy, general secretary K Sarat and spokesman RK Shivachanddra.
