TSA petitions Kiren Rijiju over double murder case

CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL,30th June: Thadou Students’ Association (TSA-GHQ) has petitioned Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Saturday seeking intervention in ensuring investigation into cases of a female teacher and a youth who were found murdered at Sugnu on May 5, 2017 and award exemplary punishment to the culprit(s).

The forensic report of the female teacher is still pending with the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata. While there are many speculations, confusions and mysteries surrounding the case, there is also complete lack of transparency in the dealing the case by the authority. So, there is apprehension of potential public outrage if justice is delayed any further, the petition signed by TSA secretary general Michael Lamjathang Haokip said.

It pointed out that based on the accounts of those who saw the lifeless body of the female teacher, it is highly suspected that she was brutally gang-raped and tortured before being murdered in cold blood.

Following an understanding with the Chief Minister N Biren on January 15, 2018, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the supervision of Addl DGP (L&O) along with three senior officers with an obligation that the investigation would be completed within three months. However, even after six months of the understanding reached between Chief Minister and the TSA, and after 1 year of the incident, the forensic report which is required for the final charge sheet to be submitted to the Court by the police is yet to be delivered, the petition said.

Given the gravity of brutality and atrocity, the case of the alleged gang-rape and murder of the female teacher deserves to be treated as seriously as the December 2012 Delhi gang-rape case in which justice was delivered by awarding death penalty to the rapists, the petition maintained
