Champ, Model Club prevail in T20 Trophy

CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL, 10th MARCH: Champ and Model Club both prevailed over their opponents in contrasting styles in Friday matches of the T20 Luwangpokpa Trophy. Model Club enjoyed a thrilling victory when they beat NAPSA by two runs in their Group C encounter. Al Bashid’s 43-run knock from 42 balls proved to be rewarded for Model, who managed 98 for five after opting to bat first. In the innings, Iboyaima (15) and Tejkumar (13) also made valuable contributions.

In response, NAPSA paid heavily for some wasteful batting as they were restricted to 96, three runs short of the target, for six wickets. Efforts from Simon (24), Premanda (23) and Ranjan (19 not out) went in vain as a disciplined bowling attack by Model tilted the scales in their favour. Mangi and Bishorjit took a wicket each for the winning side, while Simon (2 wkts), Mathew and Prameshwor got a wicket each for the losing team.

Al Bashid was the man of the match. Champ continued their winning run following their 55-run thrashing of PSC in their Group A match. Champ batted first and put up a total of 139 with four wickets in hand. Their trio of Alai, Kennedy and Bonny together garnered 90 runs to help their team post a good total.

Alai top scored with 34 as Kennedy made 30 and Bonny contributed 26. Gautam was the pick of PSC’s bowlers with four scalps. After a good show with the bat, the bowling unit of Champ did their bit and restricted PSC to 84 for six to wrap up the win.

Sunder and Gulson led the attack with two wickets each as Kennedy and Rajesh chipped in with one apiece. Kennedy, who scored 30 and took a wicket, was named the man of the match.
