One non-local shot dead, another injured

IMPHAL, 9th June: Unidentified persons sprayed bullets on non-locals killing one and injuring another at about 7pm Saturday at Langol Tarung area under Lamphel police station in Imphal West district.
The deceased has been identified as Montu Paswan (20) son of Raijiram Paswan and the injured as Chandan Paswan (18) son of Ranjit Paswan, both from Motihari district of Bihar. Both the deceased and injured were engaged for construction of a house at Langol Tarung.
Sources informed that deceased Montu along with injured Chandan and another non-local went out of their makeshift camp to purchase rice from a nearby grocery shop at about 7pm. On the way to the grocery shop, unidentified persons fired around 2/3 rounds towards them. One bullet hit Montu’s left abdomen while another hit Chandan’s left leg.
Both of them were rushed to RIMS hospital where Montu was declared brought dead. Chandan is still undergoing treatment at the hospital and his condition is stated to be out of danger.
Colleagues of Montu and Chandan told media persons that they are currently engaged for construction of a house belonging to one Adim at Langol Tarung and they never received any threat from anyone.
A team of Lamphel police led by OC rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, security measures in key areas of Imphal West have been beefed up to nab culprits but there has been no report of any arrest made till late evening.
