IMPHAL, 30th May: Al-Ameen upstaged WYC by 40 runs to seal the Thoubal District Cricket T20 League title at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday.
Al-Ameen won the toss and chose to bat as they put up a total of 135 for seven in the process. The team didn’t have it easy in their innings that saw Anish top-score with 26 off 11 followed by Abdullah (21/16), Nawaz (16/18) and Safwan (15/21).
Despite struggling with the bat, the Lilong side managed to defend their total without much trouble, thanks to the bowling unit spearheaded by Noushad.
In their response, WYC had a decent start courtesy of opener Samugou, who scored 23 off 24, but his dismissal proved costly as his fellow batsmen wilted under pressure and the team ended up managing 95 (all out), well short of the target, when the last ball was bowled. Herokumar (18/32) and Roshan (16/16) were other key run-getters in the chase.
Noushad was the chief destroyer for Al-Ameen. In his four-over spell, he took an impressive haul of four wickets, while Shadad claimed two wickets and Samir added a wicket as their side capped off a memorable day.
With his four-wicket haul and nine runs, Noushad claimed his due accolade taking the man of the match trophy. He also pocketed the highest wicket-taker award with 13 wickets.
Md Samir, who scored 186 and picked up seven wickets over the course of the competition, was adjudged man of the series.
WYC’s Mangi was named coolest captain of the tournament.
