IMPHAL, 21st May:
IWDFA emerged champions of the 13th Sub-junior Girls Inter District Football Tournament as IEDFA and DFA Thoubal notched up contrasting wins in the last matches of the tournament played at the Artificial Turf Ground on Monday.
The Imphal West girls secured a total of 12 points during the competition to become the title winners.
In their last match, IEDFA produced a clinical display of attacking football with a 10-0 demolition of DSA Kakching.
M Promila, M Jina, Vunglawmching and Lhingneilam shared nine goals between them.
Jina kick-started the rout when she scored the opener 15 minutes into regulation and then made it 2-0 moments later.
Vunglawmching tripled the lead in the 37th minute before Lhingneilam (43rd) and Chonmaya (50th) converted their efforts to put their team further ahead (5-0) of Kakching whose defence was in complete disarray as the Imphal East girls continued to pounce on their poor defending.
Five minutes later, Vunglawmching was on target again and Lhingneilam followed suit with her second goal in the 65th minute.
Then Promila took charge of the rest as she produced flashes of brilliance in the opposition’s goalmouth to score a quick hat trick (72nd, 75th, 80th) and wrap up the game in style.
In contrast, DFA Thoubal ended the final day with a hard-fought 1-0 win over DSA Bishnupur in a tight contest.
The Thoubal girls toiled for more than 30 minutes before W Thoiba finally found the breakthrough as her effort eventually proved to be the match winner.
