NEROCA FC remain top of Group B

CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL, 25th FEB: NEROCA FC were denied all three points at home by Mohammedan Sporting Club’s late goal but the hosts managed to maintain their lead in the Group B standings despite a 1-1 draw with the Kolkatans in their Saturday’s fixture. NEROCA remain at the top of the Group B table with 13 points from six games while Southern Samity close in on with 12 points after playing six matches.

The Sangakpham team started brightly and stamped their authority in the 29th minute when Ejiogu Chinedu Emmanuel worked out a fine move in a goalmouth tussle to place the ball into the net. Mohammedan’s comeback effort was rather frustrating as the Kolkata side had to toil for some 55 minutes until Zikahi Leonce Dodoz capitalised on a slip-up in NEROCA’s defence to slot home the equaliser.

Leonce Dodoz was brought on in place of Lancine Toure in the 51st minute. During the second half exchanges, two of the home side’s players – Ashok Singh Moirangmayum and Lalit Thapa - received bookings.
