IRC, KMMRS, KPC have it easy in Mt Div Polo

CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL: Imphal Riding Club (IRC), K&MMRS and Khurai Polo Club (KPC) all made light work of their opponents in the 7th 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament on Wednesday. IRC inflicted a 7-0 thrashing on Chingkheihunba Polo Club-A as L Abinath made the most of the game, scoring five goals.

Abinath was at his scoring best in the opening chukker when he hammered home a hat trick that steered his side to a commanding 3-0 first-chukker lead. In the next chukker, Abinath produced another quality strike to earn his successive fourth goal before Leishemba made it 5-0. IRC’s scoring dwindled in the third period with a goal, their sixth goal, from Basanta.

Then Abinath closed out the fourth chukker with his fifth and team’s seventh goal. M Chaoba’s four-goal salvo propelled K&MMRS to a comfortable 6-3 win over Meiraba Polo Club. The team started off with a double from M Chaoba and a single from N Anish to take a 3-0 lead in the first chukker.

In the second chukker, S Jamson got their fourth goal before Meiraba reduced the deficit with both Inaothem and Romeo on target. Chaoba completed his haul in the third chukker after scoring a pair of goals as Devanath found Meiraba’s third goal. Both sides were scoreless in the fourth chukker but their goals in the preceding chukkers were more than enough for K&MMRS.

KPC romped past ESC 9-1 as N Hovi Achumi, L Thomson, K Jogendra and T Roshan struck two goals apiece. Achumi, Thomson and Jogendra set the tone for their thumping victory with a goal each in the first chukker.

In the second chukker, Achumi and Thomson were at it again to take their side to a 5-0 lead. Roshan took charge of the third chukker with a double as Momocha scored the only goal for ESC in the period. Then it was up to Jogendra and Roger who completed the scoring for a rousing victory.
