Kpi CSOs deplore unkept promise by Govt

Leaders of various civil society organisations based in Kangpokpi and local elected representatives including ADC Sadar Hills councillors held a meeting under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District over alleged indifferent attitude of the government to develop the district.
Among the three elected representatives, social welfare and cooperation minister Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi MLA) and Ngamthang Haokip (Saitu MLA) attended the meeting convened at the conference hall of ADC Sadar Hills on Saturday while Yamthong Haokip (Saikul MLA) did not turn up.
ADC Sadar Hills chairman Haokholal Hangshing, vice chairman Thangjakam Misao, executive member Kaikhosei Lhouvum and councillor Dama Vaiphei also attended the meeting apart from representatives of Kuki Women Union, Mother’s Union, Kuki Students’ Organisation, United Welfare Committee, Thadou Students’ Association, etc.
The meeting chaired by Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District president Seikhomang Khongsai and presided over by its secretary Lamminlun Singsit had threadbare discussion on various agenda including non-devolution of complete powers and functions of DC and SP, boundary issue, district development packages announced by the CM, revision of CSOs ‘Kumbul Kithin’ (annual assembly) resolutions and unauthorised occupation of Govt quarters in Kangpokpi DHQ.
Recalling the assurance given by works minister Th Biswajit on November 11 in the presence of minister Nemcha Kipgen, the meeting strongly condemned the government's failure to translate into action assurances given to the people and decided to remind the state government of its unkept promises.
The meeting resolved that the existing district boundary of Kangpokpi shall not be altered or changed under any circumstances.
In case of any alteration of the existing boundary, people of Kangpokpi will not remain as silent spectators but fight tooth and nail, the gathering resolved.
The meeting also revived the various resolutions adopted in the ‘Kumbul Kithin’ of CSOs Kangpokpi under the aegis of Kuki Inpi including the resolution of banning cultivation of poppy plant from next year in Kangpokpi district.
It further decided to celebrate districthood day this year at Kangpokpi DHQ in the grandest way apart from hosting the state level Chavang Kut celebration-2018 and also decided to observe Districthood Day from the following year.
It further resolved that unauthorised occupants of government quarters in Kangpokpi DHQ must vacate at the earliest otherwise the Kuki Inpi and CSOs Kangpokpi will ask the district administration to issue eviction drive.
It may be worth mentioning that CSOs Kangpokpi under the aegis of Kuki Inpi had served ultimatum to the state government for devolution of complete powers and functions of DC and SP in October last since DC and SP Kangpokpi remained powerless even after almost a year of attaining districthood.
