Centre approves NE’s first NCDC in state

IMPHAL, 27th Apr: Centre has approved setting up of NE’s first National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). This was communicated by NCDC director Dr Sujit Kumar Singh to health minister L Jayantakumar, who is in the national capital, on Friday morning. Speaking to The People’s Chronicle over the phone, minister Jayantakumar informed that NCDC will be established at Konthoujam in Imphal West district, where the government had already earmarked the site. Centre has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the project and it will bear the cost of equipment as well. Once the land registration process is completed, construction will begin, he said. The minister further informed that Centre has approved three more projects – Manipur University of Culture, The Tagore Cultural Complex at Thanga Chaoba hillock and Film City. Union minister of art and culture Mahesh Sharma conveyed this to him during a meeting on Friday morning, the minister said. The union minister is also expected to visit the state in May second week, he added.
