STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 13th Apr: As winning elections by all means had been the hallmark of the Congress party, its leaders resort to dividing the voters on communal lines unmindful of the fact that such politics will have adverse impact in India which is home to people of different communities and faiths, alleged BJP Manipur Pradesh president and Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda.
Speaking as chief guest during a discussion programme on ‘communal harmony’ (Samrastha Abhiyan) on Friday at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here, Bhabananda contended that the electoral politics of the Congress solely focussing on pitching one community against another to make political gains has put the secular ethos of the country under serious stress.
Owing to extended rule of the Congress party the seeds of communal enmity have been deeply rooted in the country, he said and called upon the youth to shoulder the responsibility of restoring the secular image of India.
The MP also sought the cooperation of the people of Manipur, BJP youth volunteers in particular, in the party’s endeavour for reforming the society through vigorous campaign based on the principle of secularism.
Communal harmony is essential for the state and the nation to march ahead towards prosperity, he pointed out, while claimed that since installation of the BJP governments at the Centre and Manipur there has been significant improvement in the sector of socio-economic stability.
Unlike the Congress party which relied on appeasement policy coupled with the deceptive ploy to communalise the society on the lines of ethnicity, the BJP-led government in the state has been able to bridge the trust deficit and bring uniform development, the MP said.
Further stating that politicians need to be sincere and committed to work for the welfare of the masses, Bhabananda cautioned that failure to differentiate between honest and unreliable public leaders will multiply public miseries in the future.
According to BJP Yuva Morcha state president K Somorjit, ‘Samrastha Abhiyan’ is an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote ‘freedom of religion’ and ‘freedom from casteism’ in all parts of the country by the year 2022.
Observing that the Prime Minister’s goal could be made a reality before the specified target in case the BJP youth members work collectively for promoting communal harmony, he maintained that constant communication and frequent interactions among the public leaders would help achieve the goal.
The programme organised by BJP Yuva Morcha was also attended by deputy speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly K Robindro, Sekmai MLA H Dingo, BPJ Manipur Pradesh general secretary (media) N Nimbus, general secretary (administration) K Sarat and party workers.
