Cong-led Parl ruckus stalled NSU Bill: MP Bhabananda

STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 12th Apr: Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda has said that National Sports University Bill could not be passed by the Lok Sabha due to continued disruption of the Parliament proceeding by opposition members led by Congress.
Bhabananda, who is also president of BJP Manipur Pradesh, was speaking during the fast cum protest staged at the gate of the party's state office against disruption of parliament by opposition members.
The protest was staged nationwide under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah.
Bhabananda contended that the Congress led opposition members disrupted the last parliament session for 23 days, which lead to failure of the government to take up various welfare initiatives for the people.
Apart from the much awaited National Sports University Bill, Rajya Sabha also could not pass nine other bills including Prevention of Corruption Bill.
Since the National Sports University Bill could not be passed, the Centre is discussing possibilities of implementing the same as an ordinance, he informed.
BJP Manipur in-charge Prahlad Patel, ministers, MLAs, senior leaders and office bearers of the party participated in the protest.
BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president M Aswinikumar said that disruption is totally unacceptable in the parliament system. People sent representatives to speak and air their issues and not to create trouble on the floor of the house. One should not forget that matters pertaining to the public interest are more important than personal vendetta or a leader’s ego, he said.
“The ball is now in the opposition’s court to push for a meaningful debate rather than continuing with stand-off. People’s faith in democratic institution will be eroded if such deceptive tactics by opposition takes place at the country’s highest democratic institution time and time again,” he remarked.
