NEROCA pip HFC to secure second straight win at home

CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL, 12th FEB: Felix Odili Chidi’s last-gasp goal was all NEROCA FC needed to seal all three points at the expense of Hindustan FC and close in on I-League 2nd Division’s Group B leaders Southern Samity. It was the Sangakpham side’s second straight victory at home. With the result, NEROCA and Southern Samity are now equal on nine points from four games each, but the latter remain at the top of the Group’s table on goal difference.

Sunday’s fixture was a frustrating contest for both the home team and the visitors. It was a see-saw battle through the 90 minutes with the ball changing hands back and forth with a couple of squandered chances from either team. After a goalless first half, NEROCA and Hindustan FC engaged in another tight battle and the teams wasted the other 45 minutes, until the home side rose to the contest with an injury time goal from Felix Odili Chidi.

Felix, who replaced Ejio Chinedu Emmanuel in the second half, slotted home the match-winning goal seconds before the end of the stoppage as NEROCA sealed full points to maintain their place in the standings just behind Group B leaders Southern Samity, Kolkata. NEROCA FC next play their away game against Southern Samity on January 18 at Barasat Stadium.
