Manipur HC issues notice to Parl secretaries

IMPHAL, 14th Feb: Acting on a petition filed by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, the High Court of Manipur on Wednesday served notice to parliamentary secretaries of the Chief Minister N Biren Singh–led coalition government. A division bench of the high court comprising chief justice Abhilasha Kumari and justice Kh Nobin conducted hearing of the petition filed by MPCC members K Meghachandra, Md Fajur Rahim and O Surjakumar and instructed to serve notice to the respondents. MPCC in its petition appealed to the high court to quash the Manipur Parliamentary Secretary (Appointment, Salary and Allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2012 as similar acts had been quashed in different states following a directive of the Supreme Court of India, which ruled the Act as unconstitutional.
