CHRONICLE BUREAU IMPHAL, 7th Feb: Manipur added five medals including two gold on Wednesday to move up to fifth place in the medal table of the Khelo India School Games.
Chanam Rebina Devi in judo and Warepam Sapana Devi in weightlifting made their mark in the day’s competition by securing a gold medal apiece for their home state.
In 69kg girls’ weightlifting, Sapana snatched 70kg, picked up 90kg in clean and jerk for a combined lift of 160kg to win her gold as Palati Dhathri of Andhra Pradesh lifted a total of 145kg to finish second and Shreya Ganamukhi of Maharashtra was third with a total lift of 128kg.
Another state lifter Soubam Arbind Singh, however, settled for silver in the boys’ 85kg group. He finished behind Telangana’s H Karthik in the contest.
Rebina, on the other hand, won her judo gold medal in the girls’ 57kg category.
Thangjam Abungcha added a silver (judo 66kg (boys) and Thounaojam Joyshree Devi claimed a bronze, also in judo (52kg girls), for the state in the day’s competition.
The state athletes have so far bagged nine gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
