A bomb blast occurred at around 9:30 pm Wednesday at the residential gate of former Tangkhul Nagalong president Solomon Ningshen, 55 at Hunleikhong, Henbung under Ukhrul district, a police source said. Police source said that the IED seemed to produce only a loud sound as there were no damage done around the blast area and no splinters recovered from the spot.
Family members said that they heard an explosion while they were watching television Wednesday night and when they went out to inquire, found it at their gate, said Jeremai, son of Solomon while asserting that his father had recently left his presidentship of Tangkhul Nagalong and that he was away at Imphal on the day of the blast. He also said that there was no threat nor any monetary demand from any outfit. A team of Unkhrul police inspected the blast site Thursday at around 8:00 am and registered a case. It may be reminded that placing of bombs and blasting had become a regular occurrence at Ukhrul even though no outfit had claimed responsibility for the same, said a source while asserting that no persons involved in the activities had been apprehended.
