The People’s Chronicle hits the newsstands

Poknapham’s publisher Gurumayum Shanti Kumari, officially launched the much awaited English edition of Poknapham’s sister publication The People’s Chronicle and its website, at Hotel Classic today.
Joining the launch ceremony alongside Shanti Kumari were Editor of The People’s Chronicle, W. Tiken Singh and Editor of Poknapam, A Robindro Sharma.
Senior Journalists, prominent dignitaries also took part in the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurumayum Shanti Kumari, recollected the long cherished dream of her late husband, the late Shri Shamurailatpam Gopal Sharma, former editor and publisher of Poknapham to publish an English edition of the newspaper and termed the launch of “The People’s Chronicle” as a dream come true. Acknowledging the public support extended to Poknapham for years, she further sought the same support for the English edition.
A Robindro Sharma stated that publishing an English edition news-paper was the biggest dream of late Sh. Gopal Sharma, Former Editor & Publisher of Poknapham Daily. He invited suggestions and feedbacks from the public to ensure the newspaper to disseminate information up to the aspiration of the people. According to, W. Tiken, the readers will see a professional touch at The People’s Chronicle besides inspiring other media houses in the state. He further expressed his view that presentation was equally important as the content in a newspaper. “Business section has been added to our newspaper (which is not carried by any other newspaper in the state) because in this globalization era, knowledge about the market and the corporate sector is very essential for our young entrepeuners. Emphasis will also be given special features on environment, business, health, child and women among others”, said W Tiken.
He further stated that a special section for the children will reserved for children to expose their hidden talents. And, appealed the readers to give suggestions and feedback at the website of The People’s Chronicle Rupachandra Yumnam, Chief Editor, ISTV, stated that media fraternity in the state is facing critical situations where many issues are overlapping. However, media plays great role in all the issues to fill in the communication gaps between one another, he asserted.
He further encouraged The People’s Chronicle to become a game-changer rather than be part of the current trend.
